It really depends for me. I don't think you need to hit your kids for every little thing. If Billy spills juice on your white carpet, you don't need to hit him, especially if it was an accident. If he and his friends decide to play a round of "Let's-run-in-the-street-and-see-who-gets-hit-first!", then I think it is acceptable to smack his bottom. With your hand. Not with a belt. Not with a frying pan. Your hand. And then you have to say why you decided to spank. "I hit you because you played a game that was dangerous. You need to learn that this game isn't acceptable." I got talked to after I got spanked. Talking is a huge asset when it comes to discipline.

Spanking/Smacking, whatever is fine in my books. Things like the ruler treatment or whipping with a belt I have problems with.. But should that be a good enough reason to remove a child from his/her home? No.
