Well..I'll give it another shot
After two years of being out...I think this story deserves a welcome back speech to inspire and coughborecough you.
Instead of succumbing to the temptation of starting a new fic i've decided to to continue this disaster. I've reread it and I see many flaws, a lot and I see the lack of technique as well. However I had a good general plot I believe. Anyways here's chapter 6, its supposed to get better now but I'm not going to stake my reputation on it since I'm just getting back to writing after a loooong time and additionally this is another chapter (like the ones above) without any proof reads (I can never seem to shake that habit),so grammatically it might be just as poor but story-wise I'm SURE its better.
Also I've noticed that in my past I have depended alot on reviews. I'm not expecting any this time (especially since this section is not what it used to be). If this story gets canceled twice it will be as a result of another force not the lack of reviews. So without further ado I present the REVIVAL of 'The Modern Generation' (damn I got some work to do)
A/N btw I decided I'm going to stick with English names for characters but japanese names for attacks (the ones I know) since I've noticed that I alternated alot in the previous installments.

Chapter 6: Revelations
Last time on The Modern Generation Vegeta squared off against the mighty Colonel Blug, after a tight battle Vegeta narrowly beat the resilient Colonel by tapping into the Super Saiya-jin 2 form, unfortunately
Vegeta's old body wasn't able to withstand the form so he couldn't finish the Colonel off. Trunks was about to but Gohan told him to let the Colonel live as a warning to his superiors. Will General Yestran take the hint and leave? How will he react to yet another defeat? What became of Goten in the last fight? And how will the other confront him about it find out today on The Modern Generation!
He had a note of anger in his voice. “Bulla, may I speak to my brother alone?” the words were said without removing eye contact from the subject. The tension was high and the green haired demi saiya-jin dared not challenge it. She nodded automatically, and nudged her reluctant son to follow her. “Yes of course Gohan” and with that, the Son brothers were left alone in the living room.
It was the dead of the night, apparently Gohan wanted to get this over with as soon as possible. He didn’t want to let his anger subside with a good night’s sleep. He wanted to say to Goten what should be said irrelevant of the time. He would’ve come before but Vegeta needed immediate medical attention and he had to make sure he was going to be okay. After that it would’ve been impolite not to spend some time to console Bulma and Trunks and assure them that their loved one was going to be okay. He made sure however to reserve the best ever scolding for Goten. He had called his wife telling her he was going to be home late and then hurtled straight for his brother’s familiar house.
After persistent knocks it was young Goshi who answered the door. Had Goten heard him and decided not to open? Probably the case and Goshi might get a scolding of his own for opening. Nevertheless he would’ve found another way to wake his brother up from his slumber, if he had been asleep that is. Gohan’s power level was sure to have woken Goten up.
Bulla and Goshi tried to derail him with some small talk but it was to no avail, a groggy Goten had entered the room in his pyjamas, head down predictably and then the following scene took place.
“So Goten what do you have to say for yourself?” asked Gohan, he couldn’t believe he was doing this to an adult: a childish adult but an adult nevertheless.
“I have nothing to say for myself. What the hell are you doing here?” Goten raised his voice with the statement and made eye contact with his older brother.
This took Gohan aback; he didn’t think Goten was going to rebel in such a case as this. “You tell me, is this the way you’re going to honour your father’s legacy?”
“I do what I want Gohan. The thing is you’re not my father, you’re just my nosy older brother.” He said spitefully.
“So you really wanna go there huh?” Gohan stepped dangerously close to Goten, he stared into his brother’s twin black orbs. They were indignant but he could see that tint of fear, of uncertainty in his brother’s eyes. There was only a small fraction of it, hidden beneath all that denial. Goten did not move, he stood his ground against his more muscular brother. If one looked at them generally, they’d say they were both on equal terms in dominance. But when a person focuses his eye on the details he would see that there were slight differences, which proved Gohan’s dominance.
For one thing, Goten seemed erect, a little too erect while Gohan was in a relaxed state. Goten’s position was slightly facing away from Gohan, as if ready to retreat at any moment, there was an imbalance in his shoulders. One shoulder, to Gohan’s left was slightly more forward than the other. On the other hand Gohan faced his younger brother completely, absolutely with no imbalances whatsoever. Goten’s expression was also much more serious, with furrowed eyebrows while Gohan was utterly expressionless.
Gohan removed his gaze; this was not a sign of inferiority but rather of nonchalance. “Fine Goten have it your way.” He said with his back to Goten. “But remember this: if my nose isn’t allowed anywhere then yours isn’t either.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Gohan’s head titled slightly to the left a little. “It means, don’t come crying to me when you’re in a pinch”
“Listen Gohan,”
Gohan turned fully now, he knew his brother well and he knew that apologetic tone his brother contained, he knew it too well. He was actually glad to hear it. A feud was the last thing he wanted; even though Goten was going to be at the wrong end.
“I’m sorry I didn’t show today it was wrong”
“That’s okay Go-”
“Let me finish” as he said this Goten’s face turned to the floor. “I can’t do this anymore Gohan, I’m sick and tired of living in your shadow. I didn’t even try to compete, you’re always one step ahead of me. But now I know that that doesn’t matter.” His voice was low now, barely enough to be heard by human ears. But Gohan used his full attention and his eardrums were picking up every vibration that was coming out of Goten’s voice and absorbing them with a reaction of surprise. He had never heard Goten speak this…deeply before.
“What matters it that we protect the world from any jackasses. We must work together, especially now that dad’s gone. I’ve lived my life to the full, and now this is the only thing that I haven’t achieved, that I gave up on when I hit puberty.” He paused for a second and titled his head up a little to see if Gohan was listening, he was, his face now contained an expression of gravity on it. “Know that when you came here, I was expecting to fight you but I guess I started remembering the decreasing power levels of all our friends this morning and the regret I felt finally sunk in.”
“Don’t worry Goten, all our friends are okay. I expect you to be there next time though.” Gohan chirped, he went to hug his brother and they both shared a few moments in each other’s embrace.
“Wow I guess school really did have an effect on you, where’d you learn to talk like that?” asked Gohan jokingly, it was followed by a hearty laugh from Goten.
Gohan smiled in triumph, he knew that this would be like recruiting a new warrior or rather rediscovering an old one. His brother was back. The previous battles had been nothing compared to one they were going to face now. Every fighter knew that, they could sense on the edge of their consciousness that slightly larger power looming in the distance. They couldn’t keep a track of it since it was so far away but they knew that trouble was soon to come.
The castle-like ship’s gate opened with a whirr, Colonel Blug; in his semi-conscious state could see General Yestran awaiting his arrival. This would not be a happy greeting. Blood was still flowing out freely. His horn felt as if it was about to fall off his face. Blug counted the seconds until his badly conditioned ship would arrive at the gate and willed them to be longer but as a result they seemed much shorter. The ship landed with a crash on the larger ship’s steel ground. Smoke billowed from it as the door fell off as it was opening by automation. Colonel Blug winced at the sound of the crashing door but got out of the heavily damaged spaceship with dignity. His legs could barely withstand his weight but he knew he had to stay upright or he would make General Yestran ever angrier.
“Colonel! Where are the rest of your men?”
“They…ugh…are all dead”
“You mean you failed me?”
General Yestran’s face was purple with rage. He backhanded the Colonel who fell to the ground with a thud, breathing heavily. The Colonel didn’t even try to get up maybe if he played dead the general would leave him and besides he couldn’t muster the strength to get on his feet.
“I would kill you now if my half my force hadn’t already been obliterated! These Z fighters will suffer from my hand! I swear it.” As the general finished his sentence the damaged ship that the Colonel had arrived from exploded in a fiery blaze.
The General’s outline turned red then into a thicker green and dispersed, after about five seconds of having done this you could see a group of men clanking towards their General in their heavy army boots. “You called sir?” said the apparent leader of the pack nervously.
“Yes, I want you to prepare a ship for me, and set it to leave around 90 minutes from now. A-class of course. Tell the pilots to steer this ship closer to earth and set up its defences. I want no breaches while I’m away, full lockdown total alert and the ship had better be ready in the next 90 minutes.”
“Yes General Yestran sir.”
With that the general turned his back to them and made his way up a staircase. His pace was slow now despite his anger, this was because he was pondering of how he was going to explain to the lord that half his force had been destroyed by the ‘Z’ fighters which the lord had warned him about!
The General faced the familiar marble doors, which led to the room where his master resided. He opened them with a creak and walked at a snail’s pace on the red carpet trail that led to his master’s majestic chair.
The figure did not stir, not until General Yestran was a few meters away from him did he move.
“Yestran…why have…you awakened me…from my sleep?” he coughed as he spoke.
“I-I need your permission for something my lord” stammered the General trying as hard as he could to keep his composure, and failing.
“Ah I was having such a wonderful dream. My former glory was rediscovered.”
The master coughed and then looked at the General who was about to make the fatal mistake of looking away but fortunately caught himself in the act.
“I hope my dream will come into fruition.” This time he didn’t cough: a rare occurrence at the wrong time.
“That’s just it sire. In an attempt to-”
“Attempt!” A series of coughs ensued after the master had bellowed the word. It went on for so long that the General had to shuffle out and bring his master’s serum so that he recovered. After carefully administering the dose he continued in his speech, but the little composure he had was long gone.
“You’ve…made me angry…explain yourself.”
“I’m very sorry sire. I will never repeat such an act. I’m also sorry to inform you that I’m going to have to leave in a few moments’ time to get rid of those Z fighters you spoke of.”
“You…fool…you don’t think I know…of…what happened to your men.” He said grimly in his hoarse voice.
“But…how?” General Yestran was shocked, had someone ratted him out? Now it couldn’t be. No one dared face the lord and somehow he knew that the lord knew more than he was letting on. Every time he had been there to deliver his daily dose he had seemed a bit more tense than usual…especially after a defeat.
“I may be weak…General…but I still have abilities of which would…make you…tremble” The master paused
“You have…not…been diligent with your research…you have…destroyed half my army…I am very angry…you are in the process of failing me.”
“I’m very sorry sire please forgive-”
“Do…not…interrupt me…you can still redeem yourself Yestran…I do not care if the whole army is destroyed…as long as I get my power back…The Z fighters are essential for my return…I knew from the start you would not have the ability to…destroy…destroy…them. But they serve…a different purpose…especially now that Son Goku is gone…. Yes Yestran…Son Goku…the weak saiya-jin warrior you researched about…he didn’t end up being weak as you think…here’s what you will do Yestran…”
The healing ability of the senzu bean never ceased to amaze Vegeta. One bite and he was cured from any injuries which he might’ve possessed. No sitting in some stupid rejuvenation chamber for hours and then having to rest anymore. That was one of the things he didn’t miss about his old lifestyle.
He was in his familiar bed with his green haired wife hovering over him. “How does that feel Vegeta?”
“It feels fine. Where’s Trunks?” he sat up instantly and scoured the room for the familiar demi saiya-jin.
“He went to get more senzu beans from Korin so that we wouldn’t have to go to him every time somebody got injured.” She stated simply in her know-it all voice.
“I am not injured!” Vegeta retorted indignantly.
“Not anymore you’re not.”
Vegeta’s face turned into a shade of red. She had learned how to handle him. Whereas before she would quarrel with him and they’d have a heated argument she’d now speak calmly and undermine his antics, a tactic that gave her victory every time. He had no doubt that she was the perfect mate for him. Her personality constantly reminded him of that.
The door opened and a familiar purple haired demi saiya-jin entered with a brown bag clutched between his fourth finger and his pinky.
“Hey honey what took you so long?” chirped Bulma embracing her muscular son in a hug. “Yajirobe kept complaining.” Sighed Trunk
“How dare you bring me here boy? I wanted to finish that oversized pig off”
“Please dad, it’s the dead of night I have to go back or Pan’s gonna throw a fit.” After Trunks said this he put his hands over his mouth. Putting Pan feeling above his father’s in front of Vegeta was not a healthy action to take.
“WHAT?? YOU DARE PUT YOU WOMAN ABOVE ME?” Vegeta bellowed.
Trunks sensed his power level rising steadily. He knew his father wasn’t going to attack him but it had become a second nature to be scared in such a situation.
“HEY! Are you saying you wouldn’t put me over your father Vegeta?”
Trunks looked over at his mother. She gave Vegeta her back and put her hands across.
“Well, well…you see…I…that’s different…” Vegeta was facing Bulma’s back and now ignored Trunks completely.
Trunks shook his head and felt a teardrop run down the back of it. This would last for hours. “Well I’m leaving.” He uttered slowly and moved for the door.
“I’m coming with you.” Interjected Bulma and also made for the door.
“WHAT? Come on! See what you have done boy?” accused Vegeta but Trunks and Bulma had already gone out of the door.
As they were walking down the stairs Bulma halted. “Well goodnight Trunks”
Trunks turned behind him to face her, he looked at her quizzically “huh? I thought you said you were coming with me.”
“Oh no dear. I just said that to save you an argument at this time of night. Besides who knows what might happen if I left your father alone for one night.” She smiled and winked at him.
Trunks looked away and chuckled. His mother never ceased to amaze him. “I owe you one mom, goodnight” and with that the purple-haired warrior left the dome-shaped house and took flight. Pan wouldn’t be as merciful as his mother.
“KA-ME-HA-ME-HAAA” The blue wave prickled him as it left from his palms.
BOOM!
The ground shook with the power of the wave and formed a small crater. “Damn I missed.” Admitted a certain black-haired demi saiya-jin. “Where did he go?” demanded Trunks and looked around him.
Gohan had waked them up early to train. They all had little sleep because of the power that was making their senses go berserk. They had come here to this desolated place. It was just he, Goten and Gohan. Trunks was surprised when he saw Goten so focused on fighting. He hadn’t seen this side of him in years. He had asked him about it and Goten had just said something about having a new rival now. It confused Trunks a bit but he got the main point of it.
Gohan didn’t summon the others; since they weren’t up to par with their fighting power they would just slow them down and they weren’t going to ask Vegeta to come along in case he started dictating everything. So after a warm-up and some individual training they were now sparring with each other. Currently it was Goten and Trunks versus Gohan and they weren’t doing too well.
Gohan phased above Goten and kicked him out of the sky. “You’re out of shape bro” he shouted at the descending speck that was Goten.
“HAAA” Trunks charged at him and attempted to punch him but his hand went through an after-image. “Too slow Trunks.” Whispered a voice in his ear and then he felt a heavy force on his jaw that threw him to a nearby rock formation.
By this time Goten was back up in the air. He just stood there panting with a serious look on his face. Gohan faced him, his hands across with a cocky smile etched on his face.
Goten closed his eyes and smiled as well. “Not bad Gohan.” He chuckled a bit before he resumed his comments, by this time Trunks had recovered and phased beside Goten, also with a smile on his face.
“Yeah Gohan, but you’re going to have to go Mystic when facing two super saiya-jins” as he said this Trunks’s aura revealed itself with a blast. “HAAA” with that cry the aura grew larger and became golden, Trunks’s hair stood on its end and flashed into a golden color and his pupils turned into a brighter shade of blue.. Goten’s features also did this but with the difference that the hair was different.
“Is that a fact?” asked Gohan in reply to Trunks’s statement.
“Don’t be cocky Gohan or we’ll have to bring you some senzu beans” said Goten and they both charged at the older saiya-jin.
Sonic booms emitted as the golden warriors simultaneously tried to land a punch on their more powerful adversary with their feverish assault. After a few second of attempting, Goten managed to uppercut his brother on the chin. His head tilted up, Trunks tried to follow that up but failed as Gohan’s hand rapidly caught his arm, his foot ascended and kicked Goten in the gut. Goten’s body swirled inwardly with pain and this gave the opportunity for Gohan to elbow him at the back of the head. Goten spiralled downwards to the ground with the impact.
This all happened while Gohan had just caught Trunks’s flailing arm. Now Gohan turned his attention to the baffled Trunks. “He shouldn’t have hit me. First punch of the day” commented Gohan, smiling ever-cockily. In a panic Trunks brought his other arm to punch his captor but to no avail, he was too fast and before he knew it, Trunks was hurtling to the ground as well.
A few seconds later the two golden fighters were ascending back in a fast speed, they both passionately brought arms back and punched violently…only to hit an after-image. “How the hell did he get so fast?” Trunks had hardly started the sentence when he felt himself being thrown into the opposite direction he was facing, he hadn’t seen it coming, one second his hand was going through an after image and the next he was hurtling in the air alongside Goten.
“That’s it! I’ve had it” cried Goten and stopped abruptly, he charged again towards his brother. He phased above him and kicked him in his buttocks. The golden warrior seemed surprised that his foot didn’t go through another after image but wasted no time, every millisecond counted against Gohan. He grabbed him from behind in an arm-lock as Trunks came back and punched him in the gut.
Gohan swivelled downwards in pain, Trunks turned back to base form. Goten had gotten Gohan right where he wanted. They had basically won. “See bro…” Goten panted as his brother struggled violently against the golden warrior’s grip. “You shouldn’t have gotten cocky…If we had been fighting for real Trunks would’ve finished you off by now” said Goten releasing the grip on his older brother.
Gohan smiled cheerfully, “not really, I could’ve brought my foot up and kicked him, but I didn’t wanna do it, this is a spar after all.”
“Hah whatever you say Gohan.” Chuckled Trunks.
“I’m surprised at you Goten, I didn’t think you’d last this long”
“Haha, yeah Goten I’m surprised you caught up with me, we should spar sometime” challenged Trunks.
“Yeah just like old times” said Goten, secretly he was exhausted he had been giving it his all at some periods of the battle while Trunks and Gohan had been suppressing their powers. But he wasn’t a long way off; his endurance just needed a little brushing up.
“Man I’m hungry” remarked Gohan cheerfully. Goten chuckled “You sounded like dad the way you said it.” Trunks nodded in agreement. “Haha really? Cool, you guys wanna come over to my place for lunch” requested Gohan.
“Yeah sure I’m starving.” Agreed Goten. “I’d come, only I promised mom I’d eat at her place so…see ya”
“That is too bad haha Bulma never was much of a cook.” Trunks glared playfully at Gohan’s remark but then made an expression, which conceded to his words. Goten’s stomach suddenly made a loud lurch.
“Hey Gohan are we going or what?”
Gohan and Trunks turned to see where the sound was coming from; Goten had already flown at a distance. “Boy did that sound come from way over there?” questioned Trunks
“GOHAN!” cried Goten leaving his brother no time to reply to Trunks’s question.
“See ya Trunks.”
“See you Gohan.”
Three pearly white auras formed around the demi saiya-jin, two of them went one way while the other went the opposite way, and the place became isolated once again. The only difference from before the ‘sparring’ was the disfigured rock formations and a crater which had a pungent smell of burnt rock around it but everything else was the same.
Not far from the earth, sat General Yestran in his personal ship. He smiled crookedly. His anger had subsided. His master’s would-be return to glory more than compensated for those trainees and weak soldiers that were lost in vain. Besides he might also get the chance to replace some of his dead solders with stronger, more prominent ones. Now that he knew his master’s full plan he was less worried than before. Those earthlings didn’t know what was coming at them. They were going to regret the day they met General Yestran. At this thought the diabolic General laughed maniacally in the vacuum of space where his ship was edging closer to Earth…
