Yeah, I know they could have learnt how to master it already, but it was just the impression I got that they had to stay in the transformed state in order to recuperate energy lost in the transformation and apply it to their own bodies. I do agree with you on the subject of why they weren't MSSJ's in movie 8 because there is no revelance pointing to Goku or Gohan limiting their ki output.
