One panel. To travel around the Earth "a couple dozen times" would mean at least 24x. Assuming he made one revolution per second, that would mean he travelled 192,000 miles per second. He even told Piccolo that he was so bored waiting for him that he "took a nap". We know it doesn't exactly take Piccolo several minutes to fly down from Dende's look-out. Boo climbed it rather swiftly (although he obviously wasn't using his full-speed)
Toriyama said they were even faster than the speed of light towards the end of the series. Whether or not that interview is authentic doesn't really matter: The math speaks for itself. You can check Volume 24, because those are exact quotes of Gotenks.

Wow that's great. But I think a lot of people could tell that the very important Z-fighters, or VIZF (I know I'm not funny, but couldja give it a chance??) closer to the end of the series (even in the Cell saga) can go as fast as light.

Well everytime a big noise happens (a sonic boom) they're going fast as sound. That not fast enough for ya, then messure you're distance from the TV and do the math and figure out, based on if the character is invisable, they are going as fast as light.
