The first Super Saiyan is a plot device, and so is Super Saiyan 2 and 3. They can be lame at times, and they still fit somewhere in the system of Saiyan transformations. The Golden Oozaru transformation may be lame in your opinion, but lameness has absolutely nothing to do with its purpose.
