Please. It's ridiculous to think they'd make statues for every bloody nuub that got owned in the streets that day. Generally what happens is, these monument things are erected for people who were actually...you know...important. And nothing Kakashi said implicates a one-on-one duel. He said they fought, but he didn't say they fought alone.
@Island: Lol, Cockshadow. Whatever, I only said we have reason to doubt. It's obviously too early to make a clean call, but I stand by the possibility (and high probability) that Shodai was backed-up by others.
