Default Re: 10,000 dead in Burma.

I'm kind of surpirsed this didn't make the news sooner too. We heard about it here in NZ basically the next day (same day even I think). Death toll is confirmed at approx 22,300. Official reports say that the toll could climb up to 100,000 because of the current conditions and difficulty getting aid to the victims. It's likely to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. I guess you guys didn't hear about the monk uprising there either did you? Hundreds given life sentences and killed for simply protesting about the government treatment. Monks ... fucking seriuosly! Wasn't as bad as last time when thousands were killed for exactly the same thing.

On the note of your little political discussion: America shouldn't give Aid because it has to but rather because it's the right thing to do. I hate the whole notion of world police, it really makes me sick. But it's the title your country has chosen to wear through a series of very controversial actions in recent times. The news shouldn't be about 'if it didn't happen to us who the fuck cares' it should be much more unselfish and try to show more of an international view. There will always be things to talk about coming from your own country but sometimes there are more important things than the democratic candidacy and the state of the economy. In my view burying your head in the sand and saying too bad so sad, glad it wasn't us, is very self-centred and selfish. Maybe that's just me.

So glad I'm in New Zealand now and not Canada and have to deal with so much of that crap cause I'm so much further away.
