It isn't irrelevant. East Kaioshin made that statement like he was proud of being able to kill Freeza. He indeed was proud. He didn't know that the Z Senshi had achieved that peak several years ago. If he'd be stronger he would say for example:a thousand Freeza's or something similar. Would you compare your strenght in to a kid's strenght? It's obvious you can defeat a kid but you don't make it a indicator of your strenght.
