Super Buu had to suppress his chi and hide for an hour before he decided to absorb Super Gotenks.
It wouldn't make sense for Kid Buu to absorb someone of SSJ power, but it also doesn't make sense for countless Kaioshins to try and unleash the Z-sword, and the strongest of all of them doesn't try to do the same.

Well, I also think it's hard to believe he was so strong but the reasons are there to prove he was. If he tried to remove the sword and wasn't capable of it would mean he hadn't even SSJ2 power. There would be absolutely no point for Buu to absorb him. If Chibi Buu is winning a fight, he will kill, not absorb, he didn't try to absorb Vegeta, nor Mr Buu, nor Goku nor Mr Satan.
If he didn't try.
1- It would give a meaning to the statement: Every Kaioshin that had tried to remove the sword had failed.
2- It would also give a meaning as to why Chibi Buu absorbed him.
