Chapter 9: Demon Tranquilization

Corey, the fresh demon energy still running rampant through his every vital artery, as well as adrenaline, took on his now transformed friend, Sonic. The gold hedgehog invited Corey into battle. His goal was to survive as long as he possibly could against Dark Ichibi Corey. If he couldn’t, and wound up unconscious, or if Tails couldn’t get to Knuckles in time, it would take a great deal of thinking to take care of it.

Super Sonic flew toward his now possessed friend at a speed that was easily ten times the speed of sound. Corey couldn’t avoid the strikes that followed. However, that sort of attack would have ordinarily beaten back a normal Corey. But, since the partially-powered demon was on the forefront, it had no effect, almost hurting the Chaos-powered hedgehog’s hand. Seeing his chance, the demon forcefully activated the Sharingan.

“The energy is infinite, never-ending!” the Ichibi Corey stated, punching Sonic with enough force to send him flying back a few yards. Already, though, Corey was forming hand-signs. “Fire Style: Fire Ball Jutsu!” A stream of fire, bursting through the Uchiha’s mouth, streaked forward and exploded on impact with the golden hedgehog. The teachers were already aware that something was wrong and that they would be soon out of jobs, so they didn’t bother against them.

“Chaos… Ray!” a scream came from the black smoke. A blue energy beam came shooting through the smoke, sending up a shroud. Demon Corey simply put a hand up and reflected it. It went out into the distance. Thanks to the Sharingan, Corey saw Super Sonic charging him, and put out a hand. It struck the super hedgehog right in the face. Then, green chakra surrounded Sonic with the formation of a single hand-sign. The blue Chaos Emerald fell at the demon’s feet. He still looked like he did.

The boy picked up the Chaos Emerald and smirked villainously. This was not Corey—it was a completely different one! Amber made sure to note that.

The blue jewel was soon absorbed, and Corey made another startling transformation. An additional tail grew, and the chakra surrounding him turned the same color of the more recently absorbed Chaos Emerald. Another loud, mindless, painful scream ensued, and Corey’s teeth started growing out. The blue chakra squeezed Sonic tighter, causing Sonic to struggle. Before he could break free, Dark Nibi Corey let him drop, only to pick up the gold hedgehog by the throat.

“All your efforts…” the demon said, tightening his grip every second, “Have failed!”

At that precise moment, Tails, with Knuckles entered the scene. Knuckles spoke up as he ran outside. “Sonic, I don’t have the Master Emerald with me—oh my god!” He took in the sight of a Chaos Emerald-powered boy choking Super Sonic with not even a scratch to show for it. “What’s going on?”

“After Metal Sonic escaped,” Amber began, taking in the completely different Corey, “Demon-sealed Corey decided to heal himself, only to turn into his One-Tailed, green form. In this state, he effortlessly beat down Metal Sonic, who, previously, laid down a smack-down on him!”

“After that, he screamed in pain as the anger overcame him, and became Dark. Now, the negative energy inside of him has made him mistake Sonic for Metal Sonic. Now, with that second Chaos Emerald inside of him, the negative energy doubled in strength. I fear that…”

As Amber let her sentence trail off, a horrific sight occurred. Sonic fell unconscious, his quills and eyes returning to their normal state as he was being choked.

“Idiot! I’m not the same Corey you met on the first day of school!” Taking Sonic for dead, he threw the down-for-the-count hedgehog across the school yard. Apparently, Demon Corey was aware of his actions.

Amber watched, horrified beyond any rational thought, as the dark Uchiha closed in. “Too bad, though,” she heard him say, “that this the end for you!”

A large amount of anger, helplessness, and fright welled up inside of her, and she charged him from behind. Tails immediately noticed this.

“Amber, wait! It isn’t safe!” the two-tailed genius screamed, wanting to go after her to stop her. “There’s nothing we can do right now!” Just as he was about to break out into a run, he found a spiked, gloved hand on his shoulder.

“This is something that she feels is needed to do,” Knuckles announced, watching Amber run toward the demon-possessed boy. “It could save everyone in Station Square.”

The girl ran, fighting back tears. She finally got to him, and leapt at him, in a hug. Nibi Corey appeared stunned, and in the moment, the real, pure good Corey took his chance to go to the surface and cancel out the power. The dark chakra subsided, and soon, all of the demon chakra was gone, and his Sharingan went back as well.

“A…Amber…?” Corey questioned, reeling in his consciousness. Almost immediately, he noticed an unconscious Sonic to his right. “D…Did I…?”

“You did, but it wasn’t your fault. It was the demon’s!” Amber said, causing the young warrior to wail.

“It was my fault. If I hadn’t challenged Metal Sonic to the battle, none of it would have happened! Sonic’s blood is on my hands! I can’t forgive Metal Sonic for this! I’m going to fight him in ten days! If anyone wants to help, feel free to!” After Corey’s bold statement, Sonic stirred.

After a bit of coughing, he wheezed “If I can heal in the week, I’ll be there.” He attempted to flash the sign of victory, but he was too out of it.

Seeing that his hero was in the fight, Tails spoke up. “I’m with Sonic!” Knuckles nodded in agreement.

Amber was the only one to say no. “It’s too dangerous! You could… die!”

“If I can’t beat a robot after ten days’ training, then I deserve to die! He murdered the superintendent, and very nearly made me kill one of my best friends in cold blood! I’m not going to let him live! He can’t be allowed to!”

“Corey…” she said, then hung her head in defeat. “It’s no use. It’s part of your blood. I guess I can help you though. I just won’t fight.”

“Okay then. We’ll track down Metal Sonic in ten days. However, we will fight if he rears his ugly head in less than that time.” the Saiyan said, before a familiar face leapt down.

“Zach!” Corey said, remembering the Hyuga from last night, whom he battled with.

“I’m with you too!” he declared. “I’ll give that creep a taste of the Eight Trigrams!”

The countdown to the day of destiny had begun with Corey’s bold statement.

Five hours later, as the moon rose over the skies of Station Square, Amber was in her room, wiping off what vaguely appeared to be makeup.

“Corey’s demon has five more tails than my own…” she noted, removing all of the makeup, revealing three whisker lines on each of her cheeks. “I’m only the vessel of the Nibi no Yoko, the two-tailed female fox demon...”

After slipping on her pajamas, light pink, she went to sleep, nightmares plaguing her of Corey’s demise… for some reason.
