Default Cliche after cliche

Though I enjoy most of the movies, you are absolutely right. I think all of these things are best encompassed by (what I consider the worst movie by far) Movie 8 (1st Broli).

Honestly, they could have tried a lot harder to mix things up. I know it seems to be a the "time tested" formula or whatever, but it's part of the reason a lot of non-fans can't take it seriously.

I think the most variety we got was in Movie 12, in which the means to beat the enemy didn't suck, and we got to see Goten & Trunks battle the Nazi army.
