There's also no proof that Goku was any stronger in Movie 5 then he was on Namek. He wasn't able to control SSj, which means he hadn't gone through the training on Yadrat.

Goku has been training for quite some time, even if Cooler was stronger than Frieza, it wouldn't show any bit of a difference, plus Cooler and Frieza probably use the same fighting style that Goku was accustomed to and as of such Goku could easily counter and predict Cooler's moves. I think the two were quite equal. + Goku was using Kaioken, probably Kaioken x 20.
