LSSJ Broly annihilated SSJ Gohan.
The facts are that:
1.Gohan and Goku were not in SSJ form in the movie, and if it truely follows the timeline you claim, they should be.
2.Neither Vegeta or Trunks went ASSJ in that movie.
3.Goku told Gohan to stay back, but if they were truely MSSJs, Goku would have full confidence in him, because MSSJ Gohan>MSSJ Goku.
4.Goku and Gohan would have been much stronger than everyone else in their group which clearly was not the case.
5.The Cell Games aren't even happening in the movie (Unless they would actually drop everything including saving the world just to see a new planet Vegeta.
Conclusion: MSSJ and ASSJs don't exist in movie 8, otherwise they would have been shown, or used. The Broly universe is completely different than anyting from the manga.

1. Gohan didn't say he powered up considerably since then, he said "and here I'm
supposed to have powered up considerably". There's your answer.
2. You don't have to sustain SSj all the time to be a MSSj if you already mastered it. This is shown in the Buu Arc. All three, Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan are MSSjs, yet they don't stay in their SSj state all day every day. This could be the case, but it could also be that's how Toei made the movie, full of plotholes.
3. Who's to say they didn't? Trunks most likely was an ASSj because of the muscle bulge increase [yes it's noticable] and because when he transformed his jacket ripped off indicating an increase in muscle growth. Vegeta is also shown to have increase in muscle.
4. Didn't you hear Gohan protest? It's not that Gohan was weaker, it's that Goku gave him a direct command.
5. Broly was so much stronger than them all that he could easily toy with them making them seem equal in strength. At that point in time, they weren't
that far apart in power. From Piccolo to Goku is what I think a 6,000,000,000 difference.
6. Yes, actually the Cell Games are happening in the movie. Few things: If it wasn't, what was the point of MSSj Gohan and his hair cut, or Future Trunks long hair? OR what about the fact that Piccolo was on the Lookout when he sensed Broly's power. Something tells me they went up there for a reason.
7. What are you talking about, "Broly universe"? It's not a different dimension or anything. The movies are just hypothetical situations based off the anime's plotline-each movie set in chronological order as according to the story.
