By fool around I meant not going at full power. In his base form he tried all his stupid technics, in his SSJ form he pull out his most powerful technic, in SSJ3 form, instead of finish him off right away he rather got hit and then hit back.
No it wasn't that one sided since Gotenks was stupid, that was his first ''true'' battle, he knew what to do the next time he would face Buu, that's why he was SSJ3 right at the moment when Goten and Trunks fused, he wasn't going to try to hit at base or at his SSJ state because he knew what Buu's power was so he was going to get serious right from the begining, then the fight would be one sided. Since Gotenks is stronger than Shin Buu, he can easily dodge his attacks but he doesn't, if he was to fight him a second time, he wouldn't do the same mistakes again. That's why I'm saying he's a good deal stronger than Shin Buu.
