Excatly Goku used his emotions to kill Hirudagarn, as he saw his friends dying on the ground he got all angry and thats when Gokuy's energy begings to raise touncontrollable levels this mostly happens in DBZ only. Goku lost in Super Sayian 3 to Base Janemba, and got battered by Super Janemba, Goku SSJ3 beat Hirudegarn so this makes Jnameba stronger.

They have to make Goku win somehow, he got beat by Hirudegarn first time round,m then he saw his friends battered then he got extra strength from out of nowhere, like what happened to Turles, Frieza, i can't think of any others.
Janemba is stronger, born of a chamber of pure evil able to bend (heavens and hell) space and time by will, Hirdudagarn was a stone statue made by wizards that was eaily counter when sliced with a mystical sword. I doubt Janemba could be easily disposed of and sealed inside a box, Janemba has a vast arsenel of mystical powers that Hirdagarn does not, Hirdugarn can teleport, but Janemba teleported alot more easier and remeber he plumted Goku with this techinique...
