I'm also going by general fan's on the net, it seems as though Itachi, Deidera and Tobi are seem more popular. Sure you have Naruto, sasuke and sakura as the series starts, but they get replaced as the series goes on...

Also, the other Akatsuki members were killed off before really doing much. Sasori wasn't around for much, the two immortals didn't really achieve much at all...
