I'm really digging this latent Mangekyou idea. It makes pretty good sense to me, anyway. Since the Kyuubi has likely never met Itachi since it was sealed inside Naruto when Itachi was fairly young, younger than eight any way, so if he was anywhere near the battle zone, I doubt that Itachi had enough of a Sharingan (or even at all) to warrant special interest at the time. In fact, I doubt that he was even present at the battle. And since we've never met Madara, it stands as a reasonable theory for the Kyuubi having referred to the Mangekyou since we can only assume the Madara did posses it or had it in a latent form to have chakra sinister enough for the Kyuubi to make the note of it that he did, provided that the Mangekyou, if not the obtaining of it, causes sinister chakra to the extent aforementioned. I'm loving these cool theories They make you wonder. My mind is reeling at all of the possible directions the manga can take. Some of the super weird twists that are floating around up there don't sound half bad at first glance either.
EDIT: My lord...I was in the post a message screen for what looks like almost an hour. Two new posts have already poped up since I entered this screen. I guess I typed more than I thought, only to delete most of it >_<.
