I somehow always preferred Ganondorf over Captain Falcon. Ganondorf or Marth or C. Falcon. Occasionally even Link.
Link is ok. Hardly ever did people wait for the second strike from his side-smash, when I played as Link. Also, aerial up+A and aerial down+A are useful.
Also, do notice that I speak from Melee experience.
