I don't necessarily agree with you guys...I think the humans were rather lazy and could've been MUCH stronger. Besides let's consider this:

Goku low level saiya-jin warrior stronger than Vegeta PRINCE of all saiya-jins.

What are the odds of that?

Very unlikely. Just like everything else in DBZ.

And when you consider the fact that the humans were stronger after training in a year than Goku after training 3 years at Kami I'd say those are good odds.

So what if they had executed their training at Kami's into those 5 years between DB and DBZ instead of lazing around?

Humans>>>Goku = ruining of plot

Goku is always conveniently one step ahead of the humans in training and instead of paving their own way the humans just copy him i:e training with Roshi, Korin, Kami and King Kai in the same exact order as Goku.

As for the whole SSJ bullshit. SSJ is just a powerup, Tien, Yamcha and Krillin could've easily discoverd some human powerup that could've taken them far. But they were lazy for the plot's sake mostly.

Fact is I think the ONLY crucial saiya-jin advantage is their zenkais. They immeadiately get STRONGER after every battle.

The humans however have another trait which I think is absent in that of the saiya-jins.

Humans have a greater variety of attacks and some of them do more damage than they have the power to wield.

Kienzan
Kamehameha
Kikoho

all attack with surpass the power level of the human

additonally:
sensing
and overall greater power level control

And when a saiya-jin like Goku gets these abilities as well he become phenomenal! The humans are not important because they would ruin a saiya-jin plot but they COULD be waaay more effective. I mean for pete's sake in the beginning there was only SSJ and then mysteriously these new forms began to crop up.

Humans could easily discover something just as good. And more down the line the Z humans descendants would have greater potential since they'd have genes that are as better than their ancestors.

i:e Goten being able to go SSJ at the age of 7 while others had to work all their life to attain it.

you have to remember Uub. A supernatural human achieved by reincarnated buu but still a HUMAN. They could all be like or even better than Uub. Potential may not be there but anything could be achieved with training. Hell I know Goku didn't have the potential to become a God with an initial power level of 2. Circumstances.
