5 years between 23rd tournament and Raditz's arrival

* I believe that Piccolo trained the most intensely because he seemed to get very close to Goku's power (according to Raditz's scouter) and Goku probably spent a lot of time with Gohan plus even Master Roshi thought that it seemed Goku was a little weaker than in the tournament. Since Piccolo had nothing to do but train he must have gotten stronger.

1 year of peace before Trunks/KingCold/Frieza show up.

* Vegeta probably thought that Goku was not coming back and that he was the undisputed most powerful in the universe so he probably lightened his trainng whereas Goku probably trained just as hard as ever.

* I bet Vegeta trained the hardest because his pride pushed him to surpass Goku. Also, we didn't see Goku train to the brink of death like Vegeta obviously did each time Bulma saved him from the ruble of his gravity chamber.

* Vegeta started out weaker than Goku before this period and at the end of this period when he fought Goku as Majin Vegeta he was very close if not as powerful as Goku (in SSj2) so he must have trained harder since he was able to shorten the gap between their power levels.

10 years of peace after Kid Buu was defeated.

* Goku is the only one that had a new and exciting training partner that was capable of giving him some serious training. Also, everyone (even Vegeta) had accepted Goku as the strongest of them all so they probably weren't all training super hard with the hopes of surpassing him or anything.
