You yourselves said the missles Cell took were "nuclear". By using the broad term "nuke" in claiming that Goku could not take one, you are reffering to nuclear weapons in general, yes...?
He [Cell] didn't die from any "radiation". In fact, he was unscathed and Goku knew they would fail miserably beforehand.
So how would surviving a nuclear bomb be any more deadly...? Remember: Both the missles and the bomb are "nuclear" (By your own words), meaning: Both have radiation; one of which Cell took without any damage (physical or health-wise).
